Final Painting Instructions for Exterior Cladding Products
Surface Preparation Before Topcoating
Remove any loose material, dust, and dirt from the surface. Wash any moldy areas with BIOKLEEN algae and mold wash solution, rinse thoroughly with water, and allow to dry before painting. Uncoated nails and other corroding metal parts must be painted with FERREX anti-corrosion paint.
Final Topcoating
After installation, factory-painted exterior cladding boards must be given a final topcoat. The finishing coat must be applied carefully to achieve a sufficient paint film thickness. An adequate layer is achieved when paint consumption is approximately 1 liter per 6–7 m², using undiluted paint recommended by the paint manufacturer Teknos Oy.
We recommend finishing the products with the following paints manufactured by Teknos Oy:
• Nordica Eko House Paint
• Akrylin House Paint
The final topcoating should be carried out as soon as possible after installation, but no later than within one year of installation. The cross-cut ends of the cladding boards must be carefully painted at least twice.
Painting Conditions
The surface to be painted must be dry. The moisture content of the wood must not exceed 20% of the dry weight of the wood. During painting and drying, the temperature of the air, surface, and paint must be above +5°C (41°F), and the relative humidity must be below 80%. Avoid painting in direct sunlight.
